Route description:
- 1st day arrival
- Individual travel to Krimml (also to Schärding, if desired, then transfer by bus to Krimml).
Krimml offers you the most breathtaking view of the largest riverfalls in Middleeurope.
The Krimmler Ache plunges 400 m downwards (admission included).
- 2nd day Krimml/Wald - Piesendorf/Kaprun/Zell am See (approx. 53 - 65 km)
- Via Rosental you cycle through the Habachtal Valley, famous for its find spots of emeralds, to
Bramberg (museum of local history). The local museum of Mittersill is also well worth paying a
visit. Via Uttendorf (national park-information-centre) and Niedernsill you arrive in Piesendorf,
where the exhibition of the old Chinese town is well worth seeing. The European Sport Region
Kaprun/Zell am See begins here at the foot of the lake with the glacial ski region surrounding
the Kitzsteinhorn.

Now you leave the upper Salzachtal Valley and follow the very natural river course of the Saalach.
The cycle path leads through the broad valley basin from Saalfelden and the famous place of
pilgrimage Maria Alm in the direction of Lofer. The Seisenbergklamm and the Lamprechtshöhle are
worthwhile natural monuments on your way to the todays stage finish.
- 4th day Lofer - Salzburg (approx. 49 km)
- At Unken the Saalach break through the "Stone sea" in an impressive way and became to the
Eldorado for Rafter. Always follow the shore till your reach the "small german corner" with the
health resort Bad Reichenhall and the broad lowland of the Salzburger basin. Through the
Saalachauen it goes to the Mozart town Salzburg.

- 5th day Salzburg – Burghausen about 55km
- The festival city of Salzburg offers not only sights like the charming Mirabelle castle and fort
Hohensalzburg, it also allures you with sweet temptations like Mozartkugeln and
Salzburger Nockerln. Via Oberndorf (where the chrismas carol Silent Night has been composed)
and Tittmoning you come into Burghausen with its picturesque downtown and the
longest fortress of Germany (1,2km).
- 6th day Burghausen – Schärding about 65km
- On you go along the Inn River to Braunau with ist baroque main square. You bike
through the Natural Reservation Area Lower Inn River to Obernberg and on to the
popular monastery of Reichersberg, where the Augustine prebendaries have been
living for 900 years. The bird-crowded Inn riversides see you into the baroque town
of Schärding.
- 7th day Schärding – Passau - Schärding about 34km
- At the episcopal city of Passau, located at the mouth of Danube, Inn and Ilz River,
your Tauern Bicycle trail comes to its end. Don`t miss to have a look at the
cathedral of Passau with the largest church-organ of the world. Individual departure.
